Head of Trustworthy Machine Intelligence, IBM Research

Aleksandra (Saška) Mojsilović is the Head of Trustworthy Machine Intelligence at IBM Research. She is an IBM Fellow and an IEEE Fellow. Saška received her B.S. (92), M.S. (94), and Ph.D. (97) degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Belgrade, Belgrade, Serbia. From 1997 to 1998, she was an Assistant Professor at the University of Belgrade. From 1998 to 2000, she was a Member of Technical Staff at the Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill, New Jersey. She joined IBM in 2000. Saška’s research interests include AI, data science, and signal processing.

Over the past 25 years she has applied her expertise to diverse problem areas, including computer vision, image search, recommender systems, medical diagnostics, healthcare, IT operations, business analytics, people analytics, drug discovery, disease ecology, and most recently, COVID-19 response. Her innovative use of decision-making algorithms in business applications has shaped the fields of business analytics and has led to the creation of IBM’s analytics businesses. A substantial part of her research today is focused on development of ethical, responsible, and beneficial AI systems. Saška is the author of over 150 publications and patents. Her work has been recognized with multiple awards, including Harvard Kennedy School Tech Spotlight, IEEE Signal Processing Society Young Author Best Paper Award, INFORMS Wagner Prize, Computing Community Consortium and Schmidt Futures AI for Good Award, IBM Extraordinary Accomplishment Award, and IBM Gerstner Prize.
